Most of us do not decide to worry.
It usually starts small.
One thought hangs around a little longer than it should, and before we know it, we have had an entire conversation in our heads about something that has not even happened.
We imagine the outcome. We prepare for what could go wrong. We try to solve tomorrow with the information we have today.
And somehow, we call that being prepared.
Paul gives us another way.
Philippians 4:6–7 gives us this reminder: “Don’t be anxious, but give everything to God. Then His peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your heart.”
It can be easy to read that first sentence and simply hear, “Stop worrying.”
But that is not the whole invitation.
Paul does not just tell us what not to do with our anxiety. He tells us where to take it.
Bring it to God.
The real version.
The thing we are afraid might happen. The conversation we have already played out ten different ways. The question we wish He would just answer already.
We do not have to clean up the worry before we pray about it.
Prayer is where we take it.
And look at what comes next.
God does not promise that every circumstance will immediately change. He promises peace that does not make sense in light of the circumstance.
Maybe that is why Paul says that peace will guard our hearts and minds.
Because sometimes the situation is not the thing that changes first.
We are.
The problem may still be there when we say amen, but it does not have to occupy the same amount of space inside us.
So when worry comes back tomorrow, pray again.
Not because we failed to trust God the first time.
Because we know where to take it now.
Prayer
Lord, You already know the things occupying our minds today. Instead of carrying them into tomorrow, help us bring them honestly to You. Guard our hearts and our thoughts with the kind of peace only You can give. Amen.

Carry the reminder with you: Give your worry somewhere to go.
Don't Worry Be Happy is rooted in Philippians 4:6–7, a reminder to bring what is weighing on us to God and trust Him with what comes next.
