We often think strong people are the ones who always have the right words, the ones who never seem discouraged, the ones who walk into every situation with confidence.

But over time, our definition of strength can begin to change.

Strength can look a little different.

It is apologizing first. Remaining kind when someone misunderstands your intentions. Choosing faith when the outcome is still uncertain.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 16:13: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”

Then he follows it with this: “Do everything in love.”

That changes everything.

Because biblical strength has never been about proving ourselves. It is about remaining faithful to who God has called us to be, even when it would be easier not to.

Anyone can become hard after being hurt. Anyone can become cynical after disappointment. Anyone can protect their heart by building walls around it.

It takes real courage to stay tender.

To forgive. To keep loving people. To believe that God can still work in places where trust has been broken.

Maybe strength is not measured by how much we can carry.

Maybe it is measured by what we are unwilling to let this world take from us:

Our kindness.
Our integrity.
Our faith.

Those things are worth protecting.

Prayer

Lord, teach us to be strong in the way You define strength. Give us the courage to stand firm in our faith without hardening our hearts. Help us reflect Your love in every conversation, every decision, and every challenge we face. Amen.

Carry the reminder with you: Stand firm without hardening your heart.

Courage + Strength is rooted in 1 Corinthians 16:13, a reminder to stand firm in faith, choose courage, and remain strong in what matters most.
