It is easy to become harder on ourselves than God ever is.

We replay the conversation. We wish we could take back the decision. We wonder why we are still struggling with something we thought we would have overcome by now.

Somewhere along the way, we start believing we have exhausted God’s patience.

That maybe we have asked for forgiveness one too many times or needed His help a few too many times.

But John writes something beautiful: “From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.”

Not grace once.

Not grace until we should know better.

Grace upon grace.

There is something powerful about that image. It feels like waves.

One reaches the shore, and before it is gone, another is already on its way.

That is the kindness of God.

His grace does not run out because we have had a difficult week. It is not withheld because our faith feels smaller than it did last month. And it certainly is not reserved only for people who seem to have everything together.

God has never loved a future version of us more than He loves us today.

That does not mean He leaves us where we are.

His grace changes us.

But it begins by meeting us exactly where we are.

Maybe that is what we need to remember today.

We do not have to earn another chance.

In Christ, we have already been given one.

And another.

And another.

Grace upon grace.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for meeting us with grace again and again. When we are tempted to believe we have fallen too far or failed too often, remind us of Your unchanging love. Help us receive the grace You have freely given, and let it shape the way we extend grace to others. Amen.

Carry the reminder with you: His grace is still there.

Grace Upon Grace is rooted in John 1:16, a reminder that God’s grace is not something we use up. He meets us with grace again and again.
