Some seasons are easier to appreciate once they’re over.

While you’re living them, they can feel frustratingly ordinary or just plain hard. You’re doing your best to stay faithful, but you can’t yet see what any of it is producing.

That’s part of what makes Romans 8:18 so powerful.

Paul writes:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Paul wasn’t dismissing suffering. He knew it personally.

What stands out is the word comparing.

Because comparison requires you to put two things beside each other and decide which carries more weight.

And Paul says that when everything God is preparing is finally placed beside everything we endured to get there, there will be no comparison.

That changes the way we think about keeping our eyes on the prize.

The prize isn’t simply getting through a difficult season so life can become easier again. It’s knowing that what we see right now is not the whole story.

There are things God is doing in us that we may not recognize until much later. And beyond this life, there is a glory waiting for us that makes even our hardest chapters temporary.

That doesn’t make today insignificant.

It makes today part of something bigger.

Maybe you’re in a season right now that you would gladly skip if given the choice. You don’t have to pretend it feels good or rush to find a lesson in it.

Just don’t let what hurts right now convince you that right now is all there is.

There is more ahead than you can see from here.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

Prayer

Lord, when what we’re facing feels bigger than what we can see ahead, help us remember that this moment is not the whole story. Give us an eternal perspective and the faith to keep moving forward, trusting that what You are preparing is greater than what we can understand today. Amen.
