We are told to follow our hearts. It is advice we have heard our whole lives.
If it feels right, go for it. If your heart wants it, it must be meant for you.
The problem is, our hearts are not always pointing us in the right direction. Some days they lead us toward fear. Other days they chase approval. Sometimes they hold onto things God has been asking us to release.
Jeremiah 29:13 offers a different invitation: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
God does not ask for a perfect heart. He asks for a heart that is seeking Him.
There is a difference.
One leaves us depending on our emotions. The other teaches us to anchor our lives in God’s character.
Feelings are real, but they are not always reliable.
God’s truth is.
Jeremiah 29:13 is not telling us to follow every desire of our hearts. It is telling us where our hearts should be directed: toward God.
When we seek Him with our whole heart, He begins to shape what we want, how we see, and where we go.
Our priorities become clearer. Our decisions become steadier.
We stop asking, “What do I want?”
And we begin asking, “Lord, where are You leading me?”
Maybe that is a better way to think about following your heart.
Not trusting every emotion, but allowing God to shape your heart until it longs for the things that matter most.
Prayer
Lord, help us seek You before we seek our own understanding. Shape our hearts to reflect Yours, and teach us to trust Your wisdom over our changing emotions. May every step we take begin with hearts that are fully seeking You. Amen.

Follow Your Heart is rooted in Jeremiah 29:13, a reminder to seek God with your whole heart and trust His truth over every changing feeling.
