There are seasons of life that do not need much explaining.

You know them when you are in them.

The kind where you smile because it is easier than answering questions.

Where you keep showing up, but you are carrying more than anyone realizes.

Where you wonder if God is still working because everything feels so...quiet.

David knew seasons like that.

Yet when he wrote Psalm 23, he did not pretend they did not exist.

He acknowledged the valley.

He just refused to give it the final word.

“Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for You are with me.”

It is worth noticing that God did not promise David a shortcut.

He promised His presence.

Maybe that is the part we forget.

We pray for God to remove the hard thing.

Sometimes He chooses to walk us through it instead.

Not because He is distant.

Because there are things we discover about Him in the valley that we rarely learn on the mountaintop.

His peace becomes more personal.

His voice becomes easier to recognize.

His faithfulness stops being someone else’s story and becomes our own.

If you are in a difficult season, do not mistake God’s silence for His absence.

He has never abandoned a single step of your journey.

Not the joyful ones.

Not the painful ones.

Not the ones you wish you could skip.

One day, you may look back and realize you were not just surviving that season.

You were learning how to recognize the Shepherd’s voice.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for never asking us to walk through life alone. When the path feels uncertain, remind us that Your presence is greater than our fear. Help us trust that even in the valleys, You are leading us, strengthening us, and drawing us closer to You. Amen.
